How Trace handles your memories, location, and account.

Updated May 31, 2026

Trace lets you save memories at real places with the people who are there with you. To do that, your account and the memories you create are stored in the cloud so they stay in sync and remain shared with the friends you save them with.

When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, username, and the password you set (handled by our authentication provider). When you save a memory, we collect the photo and any caption you add, the location of the place, and the friends you choose to save it with.

Trace uses your device's location to place a memory on the map and to confirm that the people in a memory are physically together when it's saved. We read your location only while you're using these features, and we keep the location attached to the memories you choose to save.

Your memories are private to you and the friends you save them with. We don't make your memories public, and other people can't see memories they aren't part of.

We rely on a small set of trusted providers to run Trace: authentication, database and photo storage, and hosting. Map images are loaded from a mapping provider that doesn't receive your account or memory data. These providers process information only to operate Trace.

We do not sell your personal information. We don't use advertising trackers and we don't share your data for third-party ad targeting.

You can delete a memory or your whole account at any time. If you'd like us to remove your data, or to tell you what we store about you, email us at hello@leavetraces.app.

If you contact us by email, we use what you send only to respond to and help with your request.

If this privacy policy changes, this page will be updated to reflect the current version. Continued use of Trace after an update means you accept the revised policy.
